Archetypal Psychology

When I reflected on how I wanted to do my work going forward, I knew that storytelling - specifically characters and story narratives - would be important. I was lucky to find the work of Carol S. Pearson who also understands the importance of stories and is a leader in the field of archetypal psychology.

Pearson writes, “The word “archetype” was coined by C.G. Jung and refers to any eternal character, process, image, or narrative pattern that shows up in all times and places in art, literature, human dreams, fantasies, and human creations.”

Archetypes show up in human culture throughout the world. We see them in movies, fairy tales, and even in online memes. In the video below, I explain the concept of archetypal psychology, and at 1:41, I delve into the 12 archetypes that help us understand the human experience through metaphor, symbolism, and imagination.
